Prof. Karl Rose

 

After studying Petroleum Engineering and a successful international career with Royal Dutch Shell, spanning almost 25 years and many countries and senior positions, including that of Chief Strategist for the corporation, Karl Rose returned to his home country of Austria in April 2010. He set up his own consulting company for strategic management, Strategy Lab in Vienna, and works on strategy development and implementation projects for public and corporate clients. He has extensive experience in supporting executive teams with strategic decisions and all aspects of strategy development and corporate governance, especially in the energy sector. In February 2010 Rose joined the World Energy Council and currently serves as Senior Director Policy & Scenarios, leading the assessment of international energy policy making and the development of Global Energy Scenarios to 2050, major flagship projects aimed at providing WEC members and decision makers in industry, government and media with increased insight into strategic policy options. In August 2010 he was appointed as Professor for Strategic Management and Applied Corporate Governance at the newly created Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Graz, in Austria. Prof. Rose is a frequent lecturer on topics ranging from energy to security and generic themes of strategy development. He is project manager for the implementation of strategic leadership processes for the prime minister’s office and serves on the national scientific commission of the federal chancellery. In January 2011 Prof. Rose was appointed to the board of ESTAG, a local utility and power producer, where he also serves as chairman of the supervisory board for STEWAEG -STEG. In 2012 Prof. Rose also joined the supervisory board of EPG AG in Griesheim, Germany, as well as the advisory board of the Austrian net agency APG, Austrian Power Grid AG. Prof. Rose is married with three adult children and alternates between living in Vienna and his home town of Graz in Austria.
