Romana Jordan

 

Dr. Romana Jordan, born on 8th January 1966 in Celje (Slovenia), holds a PhD (2001) in Nuclear Engineering from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). She had graduated (1990) in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and acquired MSc (1994) from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Physics of the same University.

 

Between 1990 and 2004, Dr. Jordan worked as researcher at the Reactor Engineering Division at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana (Slovenia). She was President of the Nuclear Society of Slovenia between 2002 and 2006 as well as Member (2003-2007) and President (2007-2010) of the Management board of Financial Fund for Decommissioning of the Nuclear Power Plant Krško.

 

Dr. Jordan was elected Member of the European Parliament in 2004 and re-elected in 2009 in the list of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS). She served as Member of the European Peoples Party (EPP) for two full mandates. During her first term (2004-2009) she was member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), Vice-President in the Committee on Development (DEVE), Coordinator in the Committee for climate change and Member of the Delegation with the USA. She was substitute member of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Political challenges and budgets of the enlarged Union, as well as substitute member of the Delegation with Canada. During her second term (2009-2014), dr. Jordan was Member of the ITRE and Vice-Coordinator in this Committee. She was Member of the Delegation with the USA and the working group for Trans-Atlantic dialogue in the field of energy. She was member of the Contact group with the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) and the Editorial board of the Parliament Magazine. Dr. Jordan was substitute member in the Committee for Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and for the Delegation with Turkey.

 

Throughout the years, dr. Jordan was Vice-President of the European Energy Forum (2004-2014), Honorary Member of Unesco L'Oreal national programme for women in science (2008-) and Member of EMUNI Working group (2012). She is also member of various associations and fora: European nuclear society, Raw materials group, European internet foundation, Women energy forum, MEPs against cancer, Forum on the future of nuclear energy, SME Intergroup, Association of women in nuclear energy, Polar Bear Society, Alumni of nuclear technology, Kolping family, sustainable development initiative TIM OVE URE.

 

In the Slovenian political sphere, dr. Jordan was between 2005 and 2009 Vice-president of SDS and President of Women Committee of SDS. She was President between 2008 and 2012 of the Committee for the environment of the Expert Council of SDS. Since 2009, she is member of the Executive board of SDS. Dr. Jordan was also President of the Monitoring Committee (1998-2002) and Municipal Councillor (2002-2004) of the Municipality of Domžale. Dr. Jordan was awarded the MEP of the year award in the field of energy (2007) and a golden Rose of SDS (2004). She is Honorary Citizen of the municipality of Prebold (Slovenia).
